The two-lane road tun\u00adnel will be built over 200 meters using the cut-and-cover method and 135 meters using the clas\u00adsic mining method. In addi\u00adtion to the inner city loca\u00adtion, the extra\u00ador\u00addi\u00adnary com\u00adple\u00adxity of the pro\u00adject is made clear by the fact that the exis\u00adting rail\u00adroad line 3710 Gie\u00ad\u00dfen \u2014 Koblenz will be pas\u00adsed under twice in the cut-and-cover sec\u00adtion and the par\u00adal\u00adlel mining excava\u00adtion next to the exis\u00adting 19th cen\u00adtury rail\u00adroad line tunnel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The mined sec\u00adtion of the tun\u00adnel in Diez is being built using the con\u00adven\u00adtio\u00adnal shot\u00adcrete con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion method, also known as the \u201cNew Aus\u00adtrian Tun\u00adnel Con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion Method\u201d. In addi\u00adtion to the inner-city loca\u00adtion of the tun\u00adnel con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion pro\u00adject, which requi\u00adres an extreme degree of safety and cau\u00adtion during the blas\u00adting and excava\u00adtion work, the short distance of the mined tun\u00adnel sec\u00adtion to the exis\u00adting DB tun\u00adnel of at least 6 meters means that a high level of coor\u00addi\u00adna\u00adtion and plan\u00adning effort is to be expec\u00adted during con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion. With regard to this neigh\u00adbor\u00ading tun\u00adnel and the urban deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment, Alfred Kunz limi\u00adted pos\u00adsi\u00adble blas\u00adting vibra\u00adti\u00adons in the high-pres\u00adsure-resistant kera\u00adto\u00adphyre rock to be loo\u00adse\u00adned to a mini\u00admum by redu\u00adcing the length and adjus\u00adting the blas\u00adting agent. For this pur\u00adpose, a com\u00adpre\u00adhen\u00adsive mea\u00adsu\u00adring sys\u00adtem for vibra\u00adtion, noise and defor\u00adma\u00adtion mea\u00adsu\u00adre\u00adments was instal\u00adled, which ensu\u00adred an eva\u00adlua\u00adtion and adjus\u00adt\u00adment of the excava\u00adtion work after each blast with regard to rock pro\u00adtec\u00adtion. In coor\u00addi\u00adna\u00adtion with Deut\u00adsche Bahn, blas\u00adting was only car\u00adried out during short train breaks on the adja\u00adcent rail\u00adroad line in order to ensure the grea\u00adtest pos\u00adsi\u00adble safety for rail pas\u00adsen\u00adgers on the Gies\u00adsen \u2014 Koblenz line.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The tight space con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons on the con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion site are cha\u00adrac\u00adte\u00adristic of the cut-and-cover method. The loo\u00adsening of the rock, initi\u00adally by means of excava\u00adtor ope\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons, fol\u00adlo\u00adwed by occa\u00adsio\u00adnal loose blas\u00adting, requi\u00adres good coor\u00addi\u00adna\u00adtion with the excava\u00adtion sup\u00adport work. The excava\u00adtion sup\u00adport con\u00adsis\u00adting of back-ancho\u00adred bored piles and sol\u00addier pile walls places the hig\u00adhest demands on exe\u00adcu\u00adtion and qua\u00adlity due to the imme\u00addiate pro\u00adxi\u00admity of neigh\u00adbor\u00ading buil\u00addings. In order to main\u00adtain rail\u00adroad ope\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons during the con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion period, the neces\u00adsary crossings of the rail\u00adroad line in the open con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion area are crossed using two pairs of auxi\u00adliary bridges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Two twin gir\u00adder auxi\u00adliary bridges with a clear width of 24 m and 31 m respec\u00adtively are being used. In the wes\u00adtern excava\u00adtion pit area, the twin gir\u00adder auxi\u00adliary bridge is foun\u00added on three rein\u00adforced con\u00adcrete piles with a dia\u00adme\u00adter of 120 cm for each track and will remain in posi\u00adtion until the tun\u00adnel struc\u00adture is com\u00adple\u00adted. The eas\u00adtern rail\u00adroad crossing has a total clear width of approx. 45 m and will be con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adted in two stages due to the large clear width of the acute-angled inter\u00adsec\u00adting tracks. First, the auxi\u00adliary bridge with a span width of 31 m will be sup\u00adported on a load-bea\u00adring rock mass in the excava\u00adtion pit in a stop gap. The rock mass lying in the tun\u00adnel route only ser\u00adves as a tem\u00adpo\u00adrary sup\u00adport during con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion. In order to remove it, the tem\u00adpo\u00adrary bridge will be detached from this after com\u00adple\u00adtion of the first cei\u00adling sec\u00adtions under the bridge and moved onto the com\u00adple\u00adted tun\u00adnel block. The rock mass is then remo\u00adved and the remai\u00adning tun\u00adnel blocks are erec\u00adted.
