In Wol\u00adgast, in Wes\u00adtern Pome\u00adra\u00adnia, Fede\u00adral High\u00adway B 111 leads to the Bal\u00adtic Sea island of Use\u00addom. Curr\u00adently, traf\u00adfic there cros\u00adses via a bas\u00adcule bridge that opens seve\u00adral times a day to allow ships to pass. This regu\u00adlarly inter\u00adrupts road traffic\u2014resulting in cor\u00adre\u00adspon\u00addin\u00adgly heavy traf\u00adfic con\u00adges\u00adtion in Wol\u00adgast. The new bypass, fea\u00adturing the New Peene Bridge, is set to change that in the future. With a cle\u00adarance height of 42 meters, ship and road traf\u00adfic will be able to move inde\u00adpendently of one another.<\/p>\n\n

The bridge is 1.5 km long and con\u00adsists of 18 spans con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adted using a steel-con\u00adcrete com\u00adpo\u00adsite design. It spans 252 meters across the Pee\u00adne\u00adstrom bet\u00adween two pylons. The pro\u00adject owner is the Schwe\u00adrin Road Con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion Aut\u00adho\u00adrity, acting on behalf of the state of Meck\u00adlen\u00adburg-Wes\u00adtern Pome\u00adra\u00adnia. AUGUST REINERS is car\u00adry\u00ading out the rein\u00adforced con\u00adcrete work on the main\u00adland and on the Use\u00addom side on behalf of Imp\u00adle\u00adnia. This includes the two abut\u00adments at axes 10 and 190 and the four piers at axes 20 through 50.<\/p>\n\n

We have now rea\u00adched our first major mile\u00adstone: The abut\u00adment at Axis 10 has been com\u00adple\u00adted in pre\u00adpa\u00adra\u00adtion for the steel con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion and bridge advance\u00adment. This cle\u00adars the way on the main\u00adland side for the assem\u00adbly of the steel superstructure.<\/p>\n\n

The piers are also visi\u00adbly rising. The first sec\u00adtions have been pou\u00adred with con\u00adcrete, and the clim\u00adbing form\u00adwork is now moving upward sec\u00adtion by sec\u00adtion. Each time, the form\u00adwork and work plat\u00adforms are moved up to the com\u00adple\u00adted sec\u00adtion of the pier. This allows work to be car\u00adried out safely from the ground, even at great heights, wit\u00adhout the need for scaf\u00adfol\u00adding. The pier\u2019s geo\u00adme\u00adtry poses a par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlar chall\u00adenge: the groove, which mea\u00adsu\u00adres 4 \u00d7 5 meters in cross-sec\u00adtion, widens toward the top and is for\u00admed using struc\u00adtu\u00adral formwork.<\/p>\n\n

The next important step fol\u00adlo\u00adwing the abut\u00adment will take place later this month: With the com\u00adple\u00adtion of the pier head, Pier 20 will be han\u00added over to the steel con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion team. This will allow the sli\u00adding of the steel super\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adture to continue. <\/p>\n\n
