A new building for grades 11 to 13 was erected for the district of Harburg on the grounds of School Center I in Winsen. It is a classic solid construction with a basic framework of reinforced concrete and sand-lime brickwork. The choice of materials and external solar shading ensure that the building does not heat up too much, even when exposed to sunlight. The façade blends in with the surroundings with a reddish facing brick. The large façade panels in parts of the external surfaces emphasize the modern architecture. The three-storey building has a usable area of approx. 2,100 m².
Two special features of the new “Schulzentrum Winsen” building compared to a conventional school building are the design of part of the first floor area in the form of an open space created by combining 3 classrooms (cluster solution) and the self-learning center created for the entire upper school with an adjoining library on the first floor. The aforementioned open space can be used for alternative forms of learning in teaching units. The self-study center, on the other hand, is intended to be used as a completely independent unit, e.g. for free periods. The self-study center also has a corresponding outdoor area.
Thanks to the cluster solution described above, this school building can adapt to future developments in school use and alternative forms of learning. The construction work was carried out in close coordination with the school management, as the work had to be carried out in parallel with ongoing school operations.
The building was planned together with our consortium partner (G.Effinger from Seevetal) and the architectural firm JUP from Winsen, in accordance with the contract, a building permit was obtained and completed. The services also include interim construction financing until acceptance as well as maintenance services for the first 5 years after acceptance.
Acceptance took place on 15.07.2021 approx. 1 month before the contractually agreed acceptance date.
The inauguration ceremony took place on 15.10.2021.
