Our pro­ject con­ti­nues to pro­gress — the ARGE U5 team is plea­sed to announce an important mile­stone: The last tun­nel cover on the U5 has been completed!

Since the first cover con­cre­ting 765 days ago, we have really picked up the pace. At times with up to three con­cre­ting ses­si­ons per week and around 1,100 m³. In total, there are around 36,000 m³ of con­crete and 5,000 tons of steel in the approx. 880 m of tun­nel cover. 

The path to this mile­stone was any­thing but smooth and was cha­rac­te­ri­zed by exten­sive pre­pa­ra­tory work: num­e­rous divi­sion relo­ca­ti­ons, com­plex traf­fic pha­ses and chal­len­ging ground con­di­ti­ons, which had an impact on the dia­phragm wall con­s­truc­tion as well as the con­s­truc­tion of the con­s­truc­tion joints requi­red for the con­s­truc­tion of the cover, deman­ded a con­sidera­ble amount of addi­tio­nal work from the team, but did not repre­sent an obs­ta­cle on the path to suc­cess. The result shows all the more what we can achieve together. 

We are par­ti­cu­larly plea­sed that we were able to reach this mile­stone ear­lier than con­trac­tually agreed and are the­r­e­fore on sche­dule. There is one thing above all else behind this pro­ject step: com­mit­ted coope­ra­tion. The mile­stone is the result of a high level of per­so­nal com­mit­ment, relia­ble coope­ra­tion and a shared atti­tude of moving for­ward in a solu­tion-ori­en­ted man­ner, even under com­plex inner-city conditions. 

Now we are loo­king ahead and loo­king for­ward to the upco­ming work. Step by step, we are incre­asingly taking our leave of Munich’s citi­zens in order to con­sis­t­ently push ahead with the work under the tun­nel cover. The excava­tion work is alre­ady in full swing. The tun­nel breakth­rough is not far off!
