Our project continues to progress — the ARGE U5 team is pleased to announce an important milestone: The last tunnel cover on the U5 has been completed!
Since the first cover concreting 765 days ago, we have really picked up the pace. At times with up to three concreting sessions per week and around 1,100 m³. In total, there are around 36,000 m³ of concrete and 5,000 tons of steel in the approx. 880 m of tunnel cover.
The path to this milestone was anything but smooth and was characterized by extensive preparatory work: numerous division relocations, complex traffic phases and challenging ground conditions, which had an impact on the diaphragm wall construction as well as the construction of the construction joints required for the construction of the cover, demanded a considerable amount of additional work from the team, but did not represent an obstacle on the path to success. The result shows all the more what we can achieve together.
We are particularly pleased that we were able to reach this milestone earlier than contractually agreed and are therefore on schedule. There is one thing above all else behind this project step: committed cooperation. The milestone is the result of a high level of personal commitment, reliable cooperation and a shared attitude of moving forward in a solution-oriented manner, even under complex inner-city conditions.
Now we are looking ahead and looking forward to the upcoming work. Step by step, we are increasingly taking our leave of Munich’s citizens in order to consistently push ahead with the work under the tunnel cover. The excavation work is already in full swing. The tunnel breakthrough is not far off!
