Our “Neues Kaffeequartier” construction project in Bremen’s Überseestadt district was awarded the Bremen Housing Prize 2025. The prize is awarded to projects that exemplify how sustainable living space can be created in the state of Bremen. The quarter combines the historical background of the area with a contemporary, urban living atmosphere. Small-scale building structures, variable apartment layouts and a deliberate opening to the public space create room for different living models. The orientation of the apartments towards the quiet mixed-use area strengthens social interaction and encourages spontaneous encounters.
The jury was particularly impressed by the successful interplay of urban integration, social mixing and typological development. In terms of design, the district incorporates typical elements of old Bremen architecture and translates them into a modern architectural language: clinker bricks, horizontal lines and clearly proportioned windows ensure recognizability without appearing historicizing. The traffic-calmed mixed-use area deliberately focuses on community and transforms the street space into a lively meeting place.
We are delighted with the award, which confirms our claim to combine sustainable and affordable urban development with a responsible approach to the architectural heritage.
Our thanks go to the jury, the architectural firm LRW Architektur und Stadtplanung PartG mbB, all the partners involved and the entire project team!
